Re-Inventing the Light Bulb

Updated: Jan 22, 2020

The average home has 26 light bulbs in use.

Over 670 million bulbs end up in land fill each year in Canada and the United States polluting our environment and releasing up to 4 tons of mercury and other toxic metals.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could minimize pollution and reduce wasted resources by replacing the worn out part of a bulb, keeping the rest which often looks like new?

In Q2 2020, you can purchase Omachron lighting products featuring the revolutionary LightCard™ Technology which allows you to easily replace the burned out LED in a light bulb or lighting fixture.

Replacing a LightCard™ is easy and quick and the burned out LED can be recycled.

Watch the highlights of the presentation on Nov 20 2019 at The Clarington Board of Trade during Economic Summit.

Omachron lighting products use 50% to 65% less energy than conventional LED Light bulbs thereby saving energy, reducing pollution, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Replacing a conventional 8W LED light bulb with an Omachron 2.7W to 4W bulb saves you about $4 to $5 per year per light bulb! For lights that are turned on 24 hours per day, it reduces carbon dioxide emissions by as much as 19 to 33 kg (42 to 72 lbs) per year. According to the EIA, electricity generated by burning coal emits about 0.94 kg (2.07 lbs) of CO2, while burning natural gas emits about 0.55kg (1.21 lbs) of CO2.

In 2018, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimated 232 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity were used for lighting which is about 8% of the total electricity consumed in the United States. Electricity consumption in Canada and other developed nations is similarly high. Using Omachron lighting products could reduce national electricity consumption by 116 to 150 billion kilowatt hours!

Omachron LightCard™ modules are available in a wide range of color temperatures from a very warm yellow at 3,000K to a bright white of 5,000K. Specialty bulbs for growing plants or for the coastal protection of wildlife will also be available. You keep the bulb and just change to the LightCard™ color and intensity of your choice.

Omachron is completely transforming indoor and outdoor commercial, industrial, municipal and household lighting.  The LightCard™ technology and long life electronics which last up to 25 years significantly reduces the number of bulbs that will end up in land fill and Omachron is committed to recycling all their LightCard™, bulbs and fixtures.

Many people believe that modern lighting, including LED lighting, is so efficient that it does not use much energy at all. Nothing could be further from the truth. A lumen is a measure of the light output, and a watt is a measure of electrical energy. In the past, inefficient incandescent light bulbs required 40W, 60W, 75W and 100W to produce only 450, 800, 1100 and 1600 lumens of light respectively. A modern LED bulb can produce 450 Lumens with 8W, and an Omachron bulb needs only 2.8W to 3.3W, depending on the model of LightCard™chosen.

Omachron is working to transform the way we think about light bulbs. Omachron light bulbs actually come as two parts – a replaceable LightCard™ module which includes the LED's that last 6,000 to 15,000 hours, and the main body including the lens, heat sink, screw base and long-life power supply designed to last 100,000 hours or more. With this new LED technology, you no longer discard an entire light bulb when the LED's fail. Instead, you simply replace the small LightCard™ module that contains a new set of LED's. It takes only seconds. Omachron will then recycle the worn out LightCard™ modules to avoid any waste going to land fill. LightCard™ modules are more economical to replace than entire bulbs, thereby reducing the long-term cost of lighting.

Omachron Light Bulbs and Lighting Fixtures featuring the LightCard™ technology are the next revolution in high efficiency, environmentally sustainable lighting.
